Aerobic exercise increases your energy level. It makes you feel great by getting your heart beating faster and your lungs working. Just 10 minutes of vigorous exercise can even make you feel happier. Exercise helps trigger endorphins—your body's feel-good chemicals. After a few months, you'll also have improved your strength considerably.
Get active and chill out. Exercise helps you relax by reducing stress, tension, and stress-related problems such as headaches and insomnia. It also boosts your immune system and helps you fight off colds and flu.
Exercising can save gas! Once a week, walk to run an errand. If you live close enough to town or a convenience store, start from your house. If you don't live close enough to walk the whole way, drive part of the way, park, and walk the rest of the way there and back.
Remember to get moving! There's some evidence that exercise may increase the number of nerve cells in the brain. This can help keep your short-term memory sharp. Any type of regular exercise, but especially aerobic exercise like walking and biking, will do. Exercise also helps prevent illnesses like diabetes, stroke, and high blood pressure, all of which can contribute to memory lapses.
Exercise can help your social life. Invite a friend to walk with you and you'll be making two people healthier! In return, their company will help keep you motivated.
Exercise helps keep you mentally fit. It increases the supply of oxygen and glucose to your brain, and that helps your concentration.
Exercise gives your skin a healthy glow. Movement improves your circulation. It even minimizes the appearance of cellulite!
Exercise builds confidence. You'll look better, feel stronger, move more easily, and have more energy!
Exercising is cheap entertainment. Instead of walking around your neighborhood, take your walk at the zoo, in an art museum, or through an upscale shopping mall. First make a circuit of the environment at your usual brisk pace; then wander through again more slowly to take in the sights.
